1st Letter of 2014

Yikes is all I have to say about that snow. -35?! that is insane. I think its been 75+ for the past month. Its funny the other night we were talking to this guy in his backyard and it got down to 70 and he was in sweats and a jacket. So cold right? This kids around here get 3 weeks off for Christmas, how long did Parker get? Or should I say how long has he been out (plus the snow days)?

Oh man that too bad that the Elders had to leave in a hurry but Its always exciting when something out of the normal happens. For me at least, some people (my comp) don't always handle worries very easily. Oh how I wish my apartment flooded. Our apartment is so ratchet. There's rumors that we will move soon because we live so far outside out area. But who knows.

The only new person we've found recently was a guy on the street who is about 80 years old. He was really open to the idea of the restoration because he lives on a main street there are 28 (he counted) churches. He doesn't attended because he said they aren't right, they are missing something. We've gone back trying to teach him but he's been borracho (drunk) both times. We did have a girl we teach drop us though. We went over there and about 20 min of trying to talk to her about why she doesn't read the BoM she told us "God isn't important to me so I don't want to hear about him, I don't want to take the lessons anymore" so that happened. pretty ridiculous right? But I mean when I was her age I wanted nothing to do with church either so who am I to say anything. Its sad. We have been visiting a family for the past week. The mom just had a stoke and we gave her a blessing. She was really accepting and they were very nice, the first visit. Ever since then its been really awkward. The mom doesn't talk much because she just had a stroke and the Dad is super sassy. There was a daughter at one of the visits though who was really interested so hopefully she gives us a call.

Last night we were taking a member out with us who's like 30, single guy who served a mission. He just loves missionary work. So he was with us and so we walked around a lot since we really didn't have a ton of appts set. Anyway I stopped to get a picture of this salon called "From Nappy 2 Sassy" It was so ratchet I had to get a picture. As we were stopped a guy started talking to us. He said he was from India, which was weird because he was asking for Spanish stuff to read. Turns out his wife speaks Spanish, and he speaks 7 languages. Crazy! So we have him a couple pamphlets and the number to call if he wants to know more. That was way cool. Oh one more thing about investigators. We are going to the Visitors Center with a woman tonight who's husband just had a heart attack in front of her. Traumatic experience. I'm really excited since this will be my first Visitors Center Trip. I've been there before but not with an investigator. We were actually there not too long ago for a concert put on by missionaries. Its was about a Christ centered Christmas so that was really cool. My favorite was the song I Love the Lord. Which is to the tune of Be Still My Soul, look that up its basically the sermon in 2  Nephi 4. Super good.

The Ward isn't very big, its been split twice now so its in its infancy. Our church building is 2271 Liberty blvd. South Gate CA. Good maps its.  Every 5th Sunday the missionaries talk about some aspect of missionary work so I had to give a mini talk about involving members. That was scary.

New Years was super boring, we had to be inside by 6pm. So right as we got to dinner we had to grab the food and leave. We had more tamales though so that was good.

So here's a bunch of random things I've been meaning to tell you guys about:

Most Latins have brown eyes so when they see things that are different they love them. Which is weird for me and my green eyes. Its almost getting creepy the way people look at them and always comment on them. So If I get abducted you'll know why.  I missed the orange in my stocking this year. Luckily I bought some and had an orange to put in there so all was well.  I think that's about it.

Les Quiero
Elder Wilson.
