Im sure if you remember Juan Zaya, hes the one who was in a coma. Well he went to UCLA this week and asked his doctor about baptism and his doctor said he couldnt be submerged. Whats funny is what he said was his doctor said he could have his "Bautiso" which is a catholic baby baptism. "Bautismo" is a better translation of a baptism. But either way the doctor said no to submersion. We were pretty upset. Were not sure whats going to happen with Juan. Hes a great guy though.
Weve been trying really hard to be getting out minimum of 20 conversations daily. Which has been interesting between Me not feeling super well, and set appointments (almost all of which fell through by the way!) Which has brought the story of the week from Koreatown.
So we were walking by the Wilshire Boulevard Temple which is this HUGE Jewish sinagog. and we started talking to this lady walking her dog. Initially we were talking about her dog. My companion is allergic to dogs so he wasnt very involved. a minute or two later this crazy guy walked up to my companion and asked if we were mormons. I was talking to the lady (Randi) and a few minutes later my companion started inching closer. Elder Porter nudged me and said that we needed to go NOW. But of course at that point is when Randi started sharing with me about how she has been looking for a church but she has never felt like part of a church. She mentioned how shes looking for Family environment because she doesn't have family here. Elder Porter was pulling me away at this point so we gave Randi the address to the Church and she was super grateful. She said she was literally just walking her dog and said a prayer in her heart that God would reach out to get and point her in the direction. Minutes later we bumped into her. We quickly ran off and I finally got to ask what was going on with that crazy homeless guy. He was bi-polar and his good side he was the devil and would talk about how full of sin my companion was, then would switch to the good side and he cycled between an angel, Joseph Smith, Michael, and God. He was talking about how he was sent by God to rid the world of the evil and had a scyth that he was to cut the evil tobacco of the world. So when he was in good mode he would slash at Koreans that were walking by then in Bad mode he would slash at my companion. He knew a weird about of detail about the church and was talking about the Priesthood, Polygamy, Doctrine and Covenants, and needless to say he was weird enough by the things he said, but he would literally move to sides of the side walk to be the good/bad personality. It was such a strange night.
Satan is working hard to prevent the change in people. But something Jeffery R. Holland said is that the end of the fight of good and evil has already been decided. But its up to us to choose which side we want to be on. I love that so much. Its not like everyday we struggle to fight off the temtations around us. We know where we are going and what it takes to get there. But we have such a hard time trying not to get distracted along the way. Love you all!!!
