Letter from Elder Wilson 12-2-13

Que Honda! Thanksgiving was the bomb! we got real food finally! There was another family from the ward there and the girl said "I never thought I would be eating food like this" as if mashed potatoes and turkey are the scum of the earth, haha. So weird to be in such a different culture. Man I wish the days of gorging on food and then taking a fat nap. I had to be polite this year, it was the worst (sarcasm). But it was really nice, Its always nice to be in Santa Monica.

Yes, We have a car and a CD player at the house. We will be getting iPads at the start of 2014. Which will be nice so I can stop carrying so much stuff. i'm pretty sure i'lll just keep Books of Mormon in the car, and my iPad and pass along cards with me. That will be soooo nice! I'm not sure if I will be using my personal facebook though.

We've been visiting a lot of less actives and its so amazing to help people remember that joy they first felt when they were baptized ( most people around here are converts) and to help them come unto Christ again. It makes living in the Roach Motel (my apartment) almost worth it. haha! But i'm excited to hear how she is going with that. Its funny how often people say they don't have opportunities to share the gospel of help someone out. The Lord will put them in your way, or more often than not help you see the ones that are already there.

Oh Yes I got to talk to good ole Sam last week. Miss that kid. At first It was really hard being in LA with so much that's new it was really easy to forget to enjoy it, I was so stressed about everything I had to do. Talking to Sam really helped me remember all the fun times we've had and that I need to make the most of my time in LA. Today is officially my 2 months mark.I only have 15 transfers left, yikes. Looking forward and making a goal of who I want to be after the mission has really helped me get through the homesickness. I want to look back on my mission and remember all the fun times ive had, not that I was homesick and complained about being in Compton or eating Mexican food or whatever it is.

We're actually going to be hanging out in Hollywood today so I don't have a ton of time. BUT last night as we were visiting a family they were getting a stove delivered and the neighbor was trying to help out so that he could ask for a tip and the Hermano was trying to whisper about that and telling his wife to not let him in the house. Then he realized we all speak spanish so he told us the situation in Spanish. That was the first time in my life that I have been in on the Spanish crowd. That was a glorious moment. Oh and another funny moment, we were in the projects of Watts and we were waiting for a woman to answer her door and a group of kids were walking by, we said hi to them and then one of them crouched and put his hands in the air. We were confused so we just looked at them for a second. Then he started yelling "I got my hands up" Another one of them yelled "They po po!" and they all burst into a sprint. Freaking weirdos haha.
This is an email I got from my mtc companion, Elder Anderson. Super powerful, could you share it on the blog please? thanks so much!

(Sick bro Tell me how its going. I have been having an amazing week! We have been doing a pretty good job I think. One story in particular, was on exchanges day with Elder Hamblin, we ran out of options, so we just picked a random street and started knocking doors. Finally we get to one door, and an older Latino Spanish speaking man opens the door. We tell him we are missionaries, then he goes off about how he does not believe in any religion. He just went on and on about how nobody is following what Jesus Christ taught while on the earth. He invites us in, so he can talk more about his beliefs about religion. He goes on for about 30 minutes just upset about religions. Finally I kind of cut him off and said, "Thank you for sharing your beliefs and we understand where you are coming from, before we leave is it alright that we take a few minutes and share some of our beliefs?" He said, "yes." "Great thank you, but before we start I would like to ask you 3 questions and after each question answer yes or no." "okay." "First, do you believe that Jesus Christ established his gospel on the earth during his life?" "yes." "Second, do you believe that the gospel that Jesus Christ established is true?" "yes" "Great, now last, your concern is that no church today is following the true gospel that Jesus Christ established?" "Yes that is my concern!" Then we began to teach the Restoration. As we taught he had a interjections, but as we kept talking he began to be more and more calm and not so upset. Finally we testify of our beliefs, making it a point to testify that Joseph Smith is a true prophet and that the truth and authority is restored. When we finished, he did not say anything. He was astonished, I believed. Finally we say we need to go, but before we walk out the door he said, "Do you want a soda?" We accepted, set a return appointment and left. I just thought it was crazy, and made me think of my setting apart blessing, "as you defend Joseph Smith, angels will defend you." I could truly feel this was happening. It was just a great experience.)
